It is a bitter wisdom. It is a nod to Hobbes\u2019s view that the life of man is, on the whole, \u201csolitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On France\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/07\/12\/opinion\/global\/roger-cohen-frances-glorious-malaise.html?ref=rogercohen&amp;_r=2&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">glorious malaise<\/a> (thanks Thibault!).<\/p>\n<p>I like France\u2019s realism. It\u2019s a massive strength at an individual scale, especially growing up there. At a team level, it\u2019s destructive as fuck. I mean, that\u2019s what I witnessed and still witness in France. The all \u201cdans la vie faut pas se faire chier\u201d is just not that compatible with team effort, respect and focus. We can even see it on a soccer field. And I\u2019m saying that with English phlegm, if I was to express this in French it would be on the \u201con vous emmerde\u201d line.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, as long as France could live on its own it was OK, almost funny. Now that it has to compete worldwide, now that France is sort of Germany\u2019s bitch, now that everyone sees that French people together are pretty bad but are all right if not amazing when part of international teams, questions raise.<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea how this is going to evolve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This surliness is more a fierce form of realism than a sign of malaise.
