I don\u2019t watch them. New song that just came out or old nostalgia trip on YouTube I don\u2019t care, I\u2019m not watching I\u2019m listening. I will switch to another window\/tab to avoid the video stream. What bothers me the most is that the video will become my memory attached to the song and I don\u2019t want that, I want my own visuals, my own vibe.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s super interesting to me that 90s born people don\u2019t separate music and music videos. It\u2019s just one single thing to them (almost). \u201cYou know that song?\u201d Yes. \u201cYou seen the video?\u201d No. \u201cYou have to\u201d No I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n
To me music videos were more like an add-on to the song, an ego trip for the artists. A fun way to spread the word out.<\/p>\n
You simply don\u2019t listen in the same way when watching a video, it\u2019s a processing issue: when eyes are fully used \u2013music videos have insanely sharp colors, fast edits, a lot of movement- ears take a backseat. The brain can\u2019t do both at the same time.<\/p>\n
Thus it\u2019s no coincidence if music has gotten simpler \u2013melodically, harmonically- while videos and \u201cvisual albums\u201d got more popular. It\u2019s to let the brain focus on pictures. It\u2019s not a coincidence if trap music works so well with visuals, there\u2019s something hypnotic with minimalist 808 beats, sub bass and some kind of ethereal melody and mumbling voices on top of a slow motion pan in Atlanta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
