Our neighbors were older black folks. They sold their houses.<\/p>\n<p>They had two beautiful bougainvilleas or whatever against our mutual wall. With our own plants, this created a gorgeous \u201cjungle\u201d. It was a perfect and large natural buffer against the southwest sun. It looked good, and smelled good too:<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/har0ld.com\/see\/uploads\/big\/e0fbc4c5896c09bb04d9e549a32cda47.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/har0ld.com\/see\/uploads\/big\/c4a648c026d42c8bc2fb99ff1726a216.jpg\"><br \/>There\u2019s only a wall and trash cans now. Goddamn.<\/p>\n<p>The new neighbors, which are all non-black, decided not to trim the bushes, but to remove them all. Not sure if it\u2019s due to insurance or just aesthetics (who doesn\u2019t want to see a slick cinder block wall instead of having gorgeous plants hiding it?), could be both. But now I have to use the AC in March on a hot day because the natural protection is gone. I used to turn it on only on a few afternoons in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>Where is the <em>let\u2019s be good neighbors to each other<\/em> energy? Where is the <em>we should have greener cities<\/em>? Where is the <em>we should reduce our energy consumption by being smart with nature?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fuck all of y\u2019all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hate gentrification.
