You ! Everybody

Parlons musique.

"Live funk, hip hop, jazz, jamming, Afro-Cuban, soul, dancers, DJs, tapers, jazzheads, club remixers; this is Jam Band Music, this is Groove Music…this is Groove Collective.

For nearly a decade, Groove Collective has been transcending categories with one goal in mind: to move listeners’ minds and feet. Long before the term "jam band" hit the scene, this crew of New York City-based stylistic adventurers was laying down grooves that buzzed with funk, jazz, house, Latin and every party-inducing sound in between. Jam? These guys helped shape the modern definition.

"We’re from all around the world — different countries, different backgrounds — you name it", explains drummer and producer Genji Siraisi, "but when the group plays together, life becomes simple again — we want our music to be lush, undeniable, beautiful, and of course, danceable."

ROOTS

New York City… early 90’s. The roaming Giant Step party is where underground DJs and musicians really came together, and where the Groove Collective first made its mark. Previous releases on Reprise ("Groove Collective," produced by Gary Katz), Giant Step/Impulse (the self-produced "We the People"), and most recently Shanachie ("Dance of the Drunken Master") all charted on Billboard. Their Beatles "I Want You," dance remix (produced by Eric Kupper) became a club hit, and "Lift Off", a remix by Salaam Remi (Fugees), made NAC heavy rotation.

In recent years, the band has opened for and jam with James Brown, toured with the Dave Matthews Band, played on MTV’s Red Hot Gershwin Groove special, and was featured on a live one hour BET On Jazz special. They’ve backed the likes of Tupac Shakur (voted #2 all time live Hip Hop performance on MTV), Morcheeba, Pharcyde and Natalie Merchant, and have shared stages with some of the biggest names in music, including Erykah Badu, Isaac Hayes, The Roots, Guru, and Tito Puente. Their uniquely NYC sound has criss-crossed the globe making stops at Switzerland’s Montreaux Jazz Festival and Paleo Nyon Festival, Denmark’s Roskilde, Netherlands’ North Sea Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Japan (with B.B. King), and a week at Tokyo’s Blue Note. Groove Collective just returned from a 2002 tour of Europe featuring guestsoloist Fred Wesley and a trip to Moscow with guest artist P-Funk Co-founder Bernie Worrell

The pioneers of groove music, Groove Collective, is still morphing and expanding with the 2001 release of "It’s All In Your Mind." (Shamachie)and the self-release Live album …don’t miss the opportunity to experience the music live — Groove Collective may sound great on CD, but live, they’ll blow you away.

When recently asked to describe the band, a member responded…

"Part social experiment, part musical experience; We’ve tried democracy, communism, capitalism, dorian, chromatic, mescalydian, starvation diets, sleep depravation, meditation, mediation, co-op, cooped up, disco-ambient-futura-trance-jungle-drum and bass-trip hop-hip-acid-transistor-funk-rock-psychedelic-silicon-hard bop-big beat-tube-electronic-live-dub-salsa-mambo combo with a twist… and you know, I think it might be the next big thing!"
